Cherryfield Lady in Waiting (Ruby) Irish Red and White Setter
International Dog Show Rating: excellent (top score)
From a working lineage
Ruby is probably the best all round bitch in the world. She is an important and much loved member of our family, gentle and fun with the children and friendly towards all living beings. She has an infectious joy which makes everyone smile.
She is a magnificent bird dog, coming from a field trial working line (her breeder, David Byrne, is a field trial judge in Ireland). A fast, flowing gun dog with a good nose and endless endurance.
She was judged as being "excellent" which is the top score possible in FCI ratified international dog shows, showing her to be a prime example of an Irish Red and White Setter, not just in her nature but also in her appearance.
She is slender, athletic and smaller than the typical show setters, due to her working lineage, making her an ideal size for an indoor pet. Her smooth white coat is almost self cleaning as the dirt just slides off it.
She has an excellent pedigree.
Ruby was sad last May 2016 as her last puppy, Alice, left us to start a new life in the Crimean Peninsula with her new family. We needed to find a new focus for Ruby, to stop her dwelling on her loss. We decided to train ourselves up as a Therapy Dog Team, a good idea, seeded by several of our new puppy owners who also work with Therapy Dogs. Her empathy, sensitivity and unconditional love have since helped many people in care homes, children psychiatric wards and mentally challenged people. Her next endeavour is in the planning phase, she is to be involved in a project called "Read 2 Dogs", helping reluctant readers in primary schools to build self confidence and improve their reading fluency and attitude toward reading.
She is also a sledge dog, trained to pull the children in their Croozer, children´s chariot from St Jean de Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, on "El Camino".
